Self-care 101: Begin...

Updated: May 2

Do you have a self care practice? I get it…some days the best you can do is get out of bed. Some days even that doesn’t happen. I've been there…when you’re navigating a divorce, life is chaotic and exhausting. Old routines are gone. Sometimes you spend all your time and energy just getting through the day. BUT…this is the time when you need routines the most. Even just a quick 5 minute break can set the tone for the day. Here are some ideas:

  • Drink a glass of water with lemon

  • Go for a walk

  • Meditate or listen to a guided meditation

  • Read affirmations

  • Sing

  • Stretch or do yoga

  • Pray

  • Spend time with your pet

  • Journal

  • Make a to-do list (or a "not-to-do" list)

  • Do a cross-word or sudoku

  • Call a trusted friend

  • Play an instrument

  • Water your plants

  • Take a warm shower or a bath

  • Read

  • Sit...just sit and breathe

  • Take a nap

  • Watch funny YouTube videos

  • Dance

  • Savor a cup of tea

  • Clean out a drawer or closet

  • Stop scrolling

  • Go for a swim

  • Cook or bake

  • Search online for inspirational messages and quotes

  • Make a gratitude list

  • Light a candle

  • Sudoku, cross-word, jigsaw

  • Go outdoors

  • Knit or crochet (if you don't know how,..learn on YouTube)

  • Eat a snack (whole foods are best)
